All We Imagine As Light
Show Date: June 5, 2025 7:30 pm
This is a beautiful, sweeping, emotional film that explores the complexities of female friendship and captures the frantic pace, the vibrant colours and the heady atmosphere of modern Mumbai.
It is the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, and Sight and Sound crowned it the Best Film of 2024.
Produced in original languages Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi, with sub titles in English
We are showing it in conjunction with St James’ Arts Week, which this year has the theme ‘faith and light’ and will include (at 7.30pm on June 14th) a session called “I have seen the light”. This will explore how films can be a source of physical, mental and spiritual illumination, and will use ‘All We Imagine as Light’ as an example of how films both use light as the physical element by which they are created as an art form – but also shed light (i.e. inform and transform) on our understanding of the world.
