FAQs

Why a Cinema?

To Appeal to Everyone

We thought a cinema is a fun way of bringing local people together who enjoy watching great films closer to home.

I went to a 'Village Cinema' once and it was rubbish. What makes this one different?

It’s the Real Thing

We aim to provide the same quality cinema experience as commercial cinemas, but at an affordable price and accessible to everyone. And besides, doesn’t it make it a bit more fun, especially when the projectionist gets annoyed with the remote control doesn’t work!

What happens to the money?

All Profits go to Charity

After the cinemas operating costs are covered, all profits will be donated to local charities that will be chosen by Shere Village Cinema Association members. So far, we have donated over £20,000 to charities in the local area.

Who are the Shere Village Cinema Association?

Friends With a Vision

We’re a group of people from around the area – and our committee meetings are held in the White Horse pub about once a month. To get in touch, or if you’d like to join us, send us a message through the website.

How often do you show films?

Twice a Month

We started off with a showing for children and a showing for adults, once a month. But as demand increased, we now show films on the first Thursday and third Sunday of each month.

Is it expensive?

No – We Hope Not!

Unlike commercial cinemas, it won’t cost an arm and a leg. Adult tickets are £5 and child tickets are £3.50. You can pay by Paypal, Credit Card or Debit Card online, or in person at the Crumbs bakery (Lower Street, Shere) or Surrey Hill Gin & Beer Company (Middle Street, Shere).

Who gets to choose the films?

We Do

We’re open to any suggestions and we’ll let you know in advance of the choices. Check out our website and send us a message if there’s a film you really want to see.

Who chooses the charities that benefit from the profits?

You Do

The members of the Shere Village Cinema Committee choose at the beginning of each year. If you have suggestions for a deserving, local charity – or would like to apply for next year, get in touch via the Contact page.

Why don't you show some of the classics, like 'Casablanca'?

That’s a Tricky One

We hope you find our selection varied – but sometimes there’s a difference between what people say they want to see, and what they’re actually prepared to pay for. Our general principle is to try and select films which are current, haven’t been on TV and will appeal to as many of you as possible. However, use the link we have on our Home Page to suggest a film … we’d love to hear from you.

If I have paid for a film, but can't make it, can I get a refund?

Only in exceptional circumstances…

We are a charitable not-for-profit organisation with 100% profits donated to charity; we are keen to ensure we do a good service for our community. However, if you feel that you have had to cancel for extraordinary reasons, and would feel that it is appropriate and fair to request a refund, then contact us at info@sherevillagecinema.com, or alternatively, contact us through the website here.

Any refunds granted are at the discretion of the committee.

Will the film schedule change?

Maybe…

We try to plan as far ahead as possible so you know what’s coming soon to the cinema. However, due to technical or logistical reasons, we may need to amend the schedule accordingly. Consequently, we do reserve the right to change the scheduled films and/or the screening dates.
