From Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh comes The Christophers, a witty, fast-paced dark comedy-drama exploring art, greed, and family betrayal.
The story follows Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen), a legendary 1960s London pop-art icon who has aged into a broke, irascible recluse surviving on celebrity Cameo videos. Decades ago, he abruptly abandoned his most famous project: a lucrative series of portraits dedicated to his former lover, Christopher.
Sensing their father is nearing the end of his life, Julian’s opportunistic, estranged adult children (James Corden and Jessica Gunning) hatch a deceptive scheme to secure their inheritance. They hire Lori Butler (Michaela Coel), a brilliant art restorer and former forger, to infiltrate Julian’s townhouse under the guise of an assistant.
The plan? Lori must secretly locate and finish the eight abandoned canvases in Julian’s signature style so they can be “discovered” and auctioned off for millions after he passes away.
However, Lori hides her own personal grudge against the cynical painter. As she begins her work, a sharp, psychological game of cat-and-mouse unfolds between the two fiery artists—leading to unexpected twists that subvert everything Julian’s children planned.
